What counts as PD?

Your CEU requirements are more flexible than you think.

You are responsible for accurate self-reporting of your professional development activities. This information helps you track what you've completed here—it does not verify, certify, or submit anything to ASHA or your state board on your behalf.

ASHA maintenance requirements

ASHA certification requires 30 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) every 3-year maintenance interval. PDHs and ASHA CEUs are not the same unit, but both count toward certification maintenance.

PDH to ASHA CEU conversion
PDHASHA CEU
1.0 PDH0.1 ASHA CEU
10.0 PDHs1.0 ASHA CEU
15.0 PDHs1.5 ASHA CEU

Note: ASHA CEUs and PDHs are rounded down to the nearest half hour, so exact totals may not scale linearly for odd durations.

Accepted professional development activities include:

  • Seminars or courses from organizations other than ASHA-approved CE providers
  • Employer-sponsored in-services, including Medical Grand Rounds, special education workshops, structured journal clubs, and formal manufacturer training
  • College or university coursework, including online non-credit courses
  • Presenting at a conference or organized learning event (once per maintenance interval)
  • Independent study activities
  • State association conferences and workshops
  • Business and management content for private practice

PDHs count reliably toward ASHA certification maintenance. Recognition for state license renewal varies by state—check with your state licensing board before relying on these hours for licensure.
